Well today I went and picked up a new head gasket and started to pull everything apart. All the head bolts came loose easily but 1 which broke
![]() On the other hand I found my reason for power loss a burnt and warped exhaust valve that is not seating, and 1/2 of the head gasket was leaking oil/gas mixture. At least the piston and cilinder looked good! Any help on removing the broken stud would be great it is between the intake and exhaust ports. THANKS |

Keep soaking it with pb. tap it back down with a hammer, Becarful not to hit the deck at the top of the bore. If its pulled thight against the threads sometimes after a good whack thell come out with your fingers. just take your time and dont rush it.

Broken bolt removal: Find someone who's good with a wire-feed welder (if you aren't) and just glob some weld onto what's left of the bolt. Make sure the welder is turned up high enough to get decent penetration. The heat from the welder should loosen the bolt, and then you can put a vice-grip on the glob of weld and turn it out. I've removed one broken head bolt and 4 broken transaxle bolts this way.
Get a new exhaust valve and some valve grinding compound and you should be all set. Don't forget to check the head for flatness and correct it if it isn't flat. |

Just my 2 cents on this......... All my neighbors are convinced they need to have a huge motor to cut a 1/2 acre lot. I mean really, these idiots go spend $4k on a JD with a 21HP engine for a 42" deck. And to be honest, they don't cut any better or faster. Even all the "mowers" at the box stores seem to sell based on engine size. What a joke. My TRACTOR just does fine and my lawn always looks nicer than theirs. Maybe they're all insecure about something...............

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
