Thanks, I think Jeff has made me some parts in the past.

You can mount a #2 tiller on the aluminum rear end. User J-Mech did it with one of his tractors. He’s also recently asked if anyone would be interested in him making the mounting plates to sell. Contact him and he can get you setup with what you need.

How come you don't want to till with the 1450? It seems that would be the easier route to take.

Wish you were closer. I'd love to have a 582, especially one with a creeper gear.

Tilling with a hydro sucks. Can't maintain a constant speed. Gear drive is much better.

I've heard that, but I managed with my 782 this spring. I did have a little bit of a learning curve I'll admit.

Just seems to me that the 1450, with the hydraulic lift, in addition to being bolt up & go for the tiller, would be a lot easier.

That said if I could get my hands on a 582 like that I'd be all over it. Never ran a gear drive Cub until I picked up my 86 a few years back.

Tilling & holding a steady ground speed with the 1450 sucks. I have rebuilt the trunion and my lower ground speeds still lack a lot, but then the hydro isn't cruise control. I will miss the hydraulic lift, but I have found an article where hydraulics were fitted to a 582, using the driveshaft to power the hydraulic pump. Next project maybe? I have added a 3rd hydraulic circuit to the 1450 twin stick to work the rear blade independently of the hydraulic angle front blade. 1450 is great mowing and plowing snow, which will be her duties starting this winter. The 582 will have a QA-42A & the number 2 tiller, once I purchase the adapter plate for the aluminum rear. Only issue I see with the 582 is being able to operate the manual lift. I intend to get the lift helper spring, but not sure that will be enough. I see that a lift spring assist was available for the 450 snow thrower. May look into adapting that to the QA-42A. I also saw that a lift assist spring was on the 3 point for the 582. I ain't no spring chicken anymore & the wife stopped buying Wheaties years ago.

I can't find the spring on the 582 lift handle in the parts diagrams? I'd like to find out if there's a heavier spring I could use. I thought it was the other spring that's shown. It's listed under the 582 as: manual lift helper spring.

Pretty sure that no spring like in the first pic was ever used. I'd say that is a PO mod.

I strongly suggest you just get a wide frame spring assist and install it. If that isn't enough, get a Brinly spring assist and install it also. You can have both the IH spring assist, and the Brinly both installed at the same time. I don't think you are going to have near the trouble lifting the blower that you think you will..... it's the tiller that is going to be the issue. It's far heavier. I do not know what the pic/parts are that are listed as the "manual lift helper springs" in the parts book. I have never seen those, and there is no indication as to how they are used. The only spring assist offered for the IH built 582 is the wide frame spring assist.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
