Since the tower is way out of specs I'll be ordering a coil today. I may just get a plug wire while I'm at it as well.

Just check things as they are, and eliminate things one @ a time.
The coil might be bad, but make sure the points are making/braking as they should and not grounding out. Sometimes it's where the wire is connected to them, or on the cover or a bare place to the coil, or on the points themselves. When you are sure they are operating correctly, you might be surprised that the coil works even though it is out of spec's. It costs nothing to try. |

My K301 engine was running just fine today while mowing then all of a sudden it just shut off & would not start.
I did find a loose wire that broke off the 2nd terminal of the voltage regulator after I wiggled it so replaced the connector. All other wiring looks fine throughout the system. No Spark at plug No Spark at points so I'm thinking the coil or condenser or both went out because it was running fine right before it quit. |

Ok So I disconnected the + side of the coil wire that runs towards the generator then ran a jumper wire from the + side of the coil to the + side of the battery & she fired right up & ran fine.So now I need to find out where that wire from the + side of the coil goes it runs along the frame & I can only assume back to the ignition switch? Am I right on that?
Appreciate you're help! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
