Now, I don't think I've ever seen a 140 that didn't have hydraulics or a fast hitch. ![]() |

Getting back to my original post, fast hitches are very common here in the Southeast, that's why I suggested contacting a salvage yard here. Freight may get a little pricey though. FWIW, I did a CL search and found only part of one. Also found a wanted ad a guy is offering $400 for a COMPLETE setup to fit a Cub

Those tractors were very popular in your area..... BIG TIME. Tobacco farmers seemed to flock to them. Interestingly enough, you see a lot of the '84 series tractors in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Canada. Lots of them up there. |

So true, Jon. A lot of farmers here use them in their gardens. Not much tobacco here now.

My brother has a 140 without fast hitch. Bought it at a municipal auction. Was a city sidewalk snowplow tractor. Probably ordered without the 1 point fast hitch.

I didn't think they were an option until the mid 50's but the super C I grew up with had a 2 point fast hitch so maybe they were an option with the letter series. My 1955 100 was missing it but I lucked out and found one around 10 years ago for $100, of course it is still on a pallet in the barn. I found this one on CL and that is about what I see them listed for around here.

Out of curiosity, wonder if he has an industrial model? I know they made industrial 140's and Super A's, probably 100 and 130's too. I don't know what was different on the 140 but the Super A industrial had a foot feed throttle, heavier and different shaped front axle, and a brace from the steering housing back to the clutch housing--going by memory on all that, I've only seen 2 or 3 and it has been quite a while.

Before getting into Cub Cadets I was into Cubs. I had 5 or 6 but between me my father and uncle we had about 20 all had hydraulics some had fast hitch some had two pnts. I called a buddy of mine whose family has owned an IH dealer since the 40s. He told me that the fast hitch came out in 1954 and he was sure that at some point hydraulics were standard on the cub. He thought somewhere in the mid to late 60s. He has been dealing with Ih tractors for over 60 years.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
