Yes, on one of my rigs, I sometimes had to press the pedal a little beyond the lock position to activate the starter.
That is until I bent the lever just a hair more in the right direction. |

That's a good point, but the OP says he has no lights, gauges NOTHING. Not likely the clutch pedal safety is the cause of that.

In my non professional opinion I would get out the meter or test light and see what is going on before throwing parts at it, but what do I know.

I found that carb cleaner and a brass brush works wonders on an ignition switch....

I did get in a pinch one day and need to "repair" a switch of some sort. The little tabs were kind of riveted on and one of them had rusted where it was connected and no longer working. I cleaned as best as I could and managed to solder where it was bradded to the tab. Got my work done but still replaced the switch, figured it was just a matter of time before another joint went bad. Not saying this is what the problem is with the Op's machine, just something I ran into and how I worked around it.

new switch finally arrived. Still nothing. Is there a wiring diagram anywhere so I can test the switch? arrived in an opened bag, with poor communication from the seller. Not sure its a good switch.
Meanwhile, where is that safety switch yall are talking about? I don't recall ever having to do anything to start other than turn the key. Plenty of time... busted the fuse holder taking the new switch off. |

![]() If the Tractor is wired correctly and all safety features are working correctly, the tractor (A) has to be in Neutral, (B) the left brake pedal has to be depressed, and (C) the PTO has to be off.

Got it fired up today, moments before the snow started. That was cutting it a little closer than I'd like!
So, I put the new fuse holder and new switch in. Still nothing. Got out the voltmeter, turned out a few volts were making it to the starter, but not enough. Which was the fault of a dead battery. Battery was not dead at the time of hte original problem. So, charged battery. Whacked the starter a few times. Success! Who knows what the real problem was. By the time I got it to go, I'd fiddled with so many things, and jiggled so many wires, it could have been anything. But it runs now. And as a bonus, with the gas tank off, I was able to reattach the throttle cable. Let it snow! |

Hey there genius.... if you had to "whack" the starter, it's going bad. That's likely the issue. ![]() That particular procedure isn't in the operators manual on "How to start the tractor". |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
