It does have a cast iron rear but no red paint under the black there's no evidence of red paint anywhere on it (I was hoping there would be red somewhere) but it says "International" on the dash any yellow one I've seen just says "Cub Cadet" so maybe the dash has been replaced at some point but it doesn't look like it has been apart and there's nothing in the service records I have and there pretty detailed. I also checked the engine and it is a series 1

Not trying to de-rail, but I have a question about how these machines built around the time CCC was formed are badged. The 782 we repaired the rear and pump on for a friend last year has a CCC serial tag, yet the hood decals say International--yes it is the original hood. I don't remember what the dash says, but it had an alum. rear, again original to the machine. Is it safe to say that CCC used up whatever decals and dash panels IH had in stock? For what it's worth, the machine I am talking about came from an Ag dealer, could they order it with International on the decals?

All the red tractors made by CCC for IH still said international on the decals.

Awesome find. I'm thinking the dash is correct and original being only the 912 built by CCC. I would keep that one original as possible.

Adding to this:
The name International was removed from the dash once the ones labeled were used up. So was the IH emblem from the steering wheel cap.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
