Is the flat spot of the ear of the charge pump on the right side? I can't tell from the pics. If not, it's on backwards.

If it is.... go ahead and take the charge pump off. Maybe the internal pin is broken.

NO WONDER THAT CRAZY THING WON'T GO

There ain't no shift lever!

I've heard some people refer to a Hydro as an "automatic" but they're not THAT automatic.

Hard to tell from the picture, but that transmission looks like it's been apart.

It appears to have a "wrong" bolt holding the aluminum housing on and it kinda looks like there is some kind of "gasket sealer" oozing out from between the two halves.

Well, at this point, we've beat all the common issues to death. You say all is good. I would say, either your missing something that is likely obvious, or someone has had it apart and didn't put it back together right.... or it's just junk. At this point, I suggest either taking it out and tearing it apart, or finding another pump. They usually bring about $80-$100 from a reasonable seller. You find the price all over the place for them on ebay. Goddang jerks thinking they are worth $400 and such. I'd either tear it down, or replace it.

FWIW, they seldom fail.... the fact that you can't find anything wrong leads me more in the direction of missing something obvious... but who knows. There was a guy on here a year or so ago who couldn't get one to move. Finally took it apart and the inside was grenaded. I would have thought you would have found metal and parts when you drained and refilled it if that was the case, but who knows. Maybe it had been drained before you got it. Finding a bottle cap inside the suction tube is indicative that someone has been in there fooling around before.

well thanks from all you guys I have taken it apart and there is no metal filings
in it at all I need to find a good pic to see if there is some thing missing or just
put together wrong!!!!
for sure I believe it has been apart b4 missing bolt, cap in pick up tube and no oil in oil filter
so if anyone can lead me to a place to get a good view of the in side of pump/trans that would be great

thanks John

How about just using the Cub Cadet parts look up?

Read this too... might give you some better insight as to how a hydrostat works.

Download the service manual. It goes into detail about how to rebuild the pump.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
