Not sure if there was a reason behind the numbers, I don't think the push towards hydro tractors was the cause because #2 on the list is the 169 and #5 is the 107 which was part on the same line of tractors as the 126. The 73 is also on the list and was produced at the same time as the 126 and 107, it could have more to do with slow sales during those years which would have caused IH to slow production.

Was the gear drive supposed to be a short term precursor on wide frames to the hydros? Was a company descison made to limit gear drive as a marketing strategy to push it's more marketable and differentiating hydro line? Was there a production shortage of those transmissions causing the shift? Did they run out of freaking gear shifter knobs?

That is what is being asked for.
If that's what he's looking for then, why doesn't he ask that? If all he asked was "Why?", then the answer is obviously "Because they didn't make very many.". You people need to stop being so easily offended. What ever happened to "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."? Stop overreacting to other peoples' comments and move on. It's much less of a headache to ignore than to get upset.

That's a nice 126. I have one myself and I really like it. Had to replace the wiring harness as the insulation had completely deteriorated and all the wires were exposed. Check yours over real good, as I've heard that's a common problem on the 6/7 series.

Why? Why? Why? Do this sound like a 4 years old little girl

Why? For the same reason 90% of the car in North America got automatic tranny! We are a bunch of lazzy fat a$$ who prefer sitting on the couch, drinking a beer and let our spouse do the grocery alone.

Answer that one....In Europe 80% are stick shifter why?

PS: Can't see the OP cub pictures...

I cannot see your images unfortunately, but the 126 is a very fine tractor. In my area, a lot of schools used those and the 127's. In fact, my 126 came from a school where it was well maintained, but used extensively for mowing duty and snow removal. Nonetheless, to answer your question about why it is so rare, I would like to add that it is possible that cub cadet was having labor issues, too. I read one time, maybe in Updike's book, about a strike and trouble with the help, but I think that was with the WF models, like the 108, 109, etc. series. Some had the incorrect decals on the hoods and things like that, but I am trying to recall from something in the past.....so my memory isn't always correct.

You mentioned your hood being rough. Keep it! Those hoods are getting harder to come by and they were exclusive to those few models (106, 126, 107, 127, 147). I certainly don't see them very often anymore. Congratulations on a very rare and collectible tractor!

And the winner is from CANADA. Come on you guys, some of us, me, are new to this game? Do you really want to put a bad taste in a new comers mouth? I don't know anything and that's why I came here, to learn. But I will not be treated like a child. If it's just me, forget about it. And why did my pics disappear? I got them back up. BTW, 400.00 is the asking price?

The 169 was rare mainly because it was only produced for one year. I think the 107 was probably more rare because of less demand for lower power tractors as higher power models like the 147 came out.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
