Just the way the link says.
Agreed!

Yep. Setting the governor is pretty simple! That's all there is.

I got the governor set, new points, set timing, new plug and air filter.

It is still surging. Maybe that is not a good description of it. It pulls strong for about 4 seconds, the seems like it is running out of fuel, then recovers, and does it again.

I am thinking the carb would be the next thing to check. Maybe some dirt in it.

Yup! Try richen up the fuel/air mixture a little bit and see what happens.....though I'd still pull and clean the carb.

Thanks Billy. I adjusted it almost 5 turn out from the original 2. It helped a bit, but not nearly enough. I think next Sat I'll be taking it apart, and blowing everything out.

This is one of those $30 ebay carbs, so hopefully the quality is not an issue. I still have the walbro that came on the 105 when I got it, but not sure if rebuilding that would be a better option or not.

Sounds like the main jet is plugged, or the orifice isn't large enough. 5 turns out, you just as well remove the screw. It goes max fuel at around 3/3.5.

Thanks, I noticed that there was really no improvement when I got it out that far.

On a good note, it is all tuned up. I had been meaning to do that since I got it

Since attacking the engine has not seemed to help . . .

Have you checked the deck? I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a binding bearing in the deck putting a heavy load on the system.

Just a thought.

Good luck & let us know what it was when you get it sorted out.

Likewise, check the tension on your mule drive belt, as well.

I just put a newer spindle on the center of the deck before putting on for the season. The others seemed to move ok, but I will recheck. I did grease them all as well

On the mule drive, can the tension be set too tight?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
