There is no mention of new motor mounts, were your old mounts in good enough shape to reuse?

I should have mentioned that the previous owner of this tractor replaced the motor mounts right before I bought it from him, so they are practically brand new.

I torqued the rubber mounts to 20 ft-lbs, I believe. Is that proper? Perhaps they should be tighter?
Way too tight. On my 1450 I used Ny-Lock nuts and tightened them down to the point where the rubber bushings were just snug. No problems....!!!

Okay, good to know. I need to check the bolts, but I think about 2 threads are showing through at 20 ft-lbs. Is tightening these motor mounts along the lines of tightening the flex discs on the driveline? Just make it snug, don't torque down on it?

Did you replace the centering bushings for the driveshaft? Bad mounts (which they all have at some point) will wear the driveshaft ends and bushings out of round. I would try loosening the mount bolts as suggested, but it may be driveshaft related.

Berwil,

I did not replace those bushings. The ends of my driveshaft did not have any noticeable wear. I felt the bushings before reinstalling, and everything seemed okay, but I didn't inspect them. I actually didn't consider them for wear.

I will certainly loosen up my mounts. Seems to me that may be what is causing the vibration. It's not violent or anything, but it does seem to be a big more rigid.

Just snug up the motor mounts then?

Grab the driveshaft at the front and try to move it up and down. If there's much movement the front mount needs replaced. Reusing the nyloc nut should be ok.

That is correct. As mentioned, check the drive line.

Ok please by all means correct me if im wrong, but i hear people complain about engine vibration at low idle and it goes away at high idle????? The engines were designed to be ran at HIGH idle this is how they COOL!!! It's not a Porsche + mowing should be done at high idle anyway. JMHO

The engines were designed to run at WOT or 3600 RPM's.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
