yep, I went to a different site and there is no doubt in my mind it's a Haban H42...can it mount on a 12-hp repowered 108 at all?

Yes, your 12 hp should have no problem handling that 42" snow thrower, unless it is a wet, slushy snow. I believe Mark and I thought it was a cub cadet snow thrower and did not consider the Haban snow thrower.
As he mentioned, a creepy gear will help slow down the speed of your cub and improve the snow throwing experience by allowing the cub to creep and fill up the auger to throw the snow better.

The only downside is I don't see how I can put this on my 108 without butchery...

Since you live in an area where you get a good share of snow, I would think that you are blessed with (at least) a couple of options.

You should be able to sell the blower that you have now for more than enough money to buy a QA 42A thrower for your 108.

Or you can make a mounting bracket with your mill to adapt the H42 to your 108.

Some of the other guys may have more or better ideas that will help get you fixed up.

If you keep an eye on Craigslist you can probably find a replacement Magnum for around $200-$250. Something like a 1535 would make a great donor. Then you don't have to butcher anything.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
