But then it tells you right on the side of the engine to run 10w30 in the winter.

I've had no problems at all. One of them burns oil, but then again it has 1,800 hrs run time.

truth be told,i have a 16 horse kohler that needs a rebuild and i have been using 15/40 rotella year round. i admit in the winter it is a bit harder to start,but its been smoking for 2 years and i dont baby it.i have had no issues using straight 30 weight in my other kohlers

Here comes the oil debate again. FWIW, I run straight Rotella 30w from Wally World. Ran it in all my Cubs ranging from a 127 all the way to my 2284 and everything in between. Never had an issue relating to the type of oil I use.

That being said, what's most important is regular oil changes and making sure it's never run low. Beyond that, oil type takes a close 3rd (within reason).

i think we can all agree that as long as theres clean oil in the engine it really doesn't matter what kind it is.

30 wt in the summer. 10W30 in the winter for me.
