Looks to me like the float has a hole in it. It should float better than that.

Ok, I think between the hairline crack in the main needle, the sloppy throttle shaft, and the half sunken float it's time to get a new carb.
Is there any reason to avoid the carb at this link? http://www.amazon.com/Kohler-K241-K3.../dp/B00G5HMN5W thank you

Warm the float up with a hair dryer, then dunk it in water, if it don't draw water inside, it is ok.

The carb in that link is most likely a #26. You need a #30 for a 14 HP application
A new float ain't but a few bucks. I keep a couple on hand all the time plus a few carb bowls and kits. If you are gonna get into these rigs a basic parts stash is a good idea IMHO. If you contract "the fever" you will soon find this out. No known cure to date!! LOL Are you sure the bowl is not leaking also! Bushings for the main shaft are available at any hardware store worth their salt. Dry the float off well than roll it around in something powdery, like talcum powder or even flour or powdered sugar. Completely cover it. The leak will show up if there is one. BTW, that's also a great way to trace down the source of most any leak, the moist trail will lead you right to it. http://www.chrysler300club.com/how/leak/leak.html Good luck!! |

The engine is a K241AS 10 hp with a #26 Carter on it.
After some more fiddling and cursing, I got it running! I think I can take the carb off with my eyes closed now, but it's running great. thanks, everyone

So.......
You had a float that wouldn't float. How did "fiddling and cursing" fix it? ![]() ![]() |

It's a little embarrassing, but part of the problem was a weak battery and I didn't have enough fuel in the gas tank.
I went through the carb again, filled tank 3/4 way, got rid of the old sediment bowl setup, added a clear in-line filter, and it fired up.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
