I noticed that half moon hole on yours too. I guess it wouldn't hurt to shine a light in there.
Any thoughts on how to positively id my motor? I'm not the Kohler expert like a lot of you folks. Ian

The half moon hole is where it is on my 149. You should find it there. You may need to use the sandpaper trick to see the marks.
On the other side of the motor, above where your coil would normally be mounted should be a tag riveted to the shroud. Yours should be a K-321 which is a 14 hp.
