Ditto Matt's comments. This past weekend I got a 5 gallon pail of Hy-Tran Ultra from a Case IH dealer for $69 (part no. 372705R7). But if you have only one Cub Cadet then gallon jugs or quarts can be had from your local CC dealer, though the price per gallon is nearly double the 5 gallon pail price. Same stuff, just different label and price.

Neither Case IH or MTD make their own Hy-Tran fluid, but it has always been made by Viscosity Oil Company.

Default Dextron, mercon

Since I can remember every trans my dad or I opened up hydro or stick good old automotive trans fluid is the onlything that went back in. I never seen it be any problem. As far as "moisture absorbant" anything that stits outside and sweets or has a leak in through the breather or shifter is going to build up water, and eventualy be a problem.

I've drained ATF out of a couple of mine because they were noisy and doing weird stuff. Hytran will absorb that water and it'll glob up and stick to the case or stay in the filter instead of going through the trans. ATF will not do that...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
