Thanks for your help again; we got the differential housing switched out and she's running! I'm bothered by the fact that though both housings are said to be the same model number, the one has the hole in it for the internal brakes and the other does not. The swap went just fine, and I stayed with the external though I could have used either. It's still got a few bugs to work out (the plug won't spark until after you turn the key back to the on position, the battery isn't charging as well as it should, the lighting system needs to be overhauled, it slowly backs up when you let off on the brake, the speed control lever is pretty hard to move, and the pto clutch is seized up), but after sitting in the weather for so many years I'm very happy with our progress! Here's a couple pictures for your enjoyment.

Also, I've found that if you accidentally move the speed control lever from half speed to full speed to quickly, due to the sticky lever, the 169 will wheelie and about buck you off. Talk about torque!

I wish that I had seen that! I can only imagine what it would have looked like!

Kaleb,

Here's a link on how to test the starter/generator and the Voltage regulator. I found the link through the old forum webpages:
http://s6.zetaboards.com/Only_Cub_Ca...opic/585322/1/

We should do this sometime! I haven't ever done this.

Russell, you'll have to swing by sometime and try it out for sure. I'm pretty excited to keep on improving it!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
