I found a deck and snow plow not to far from me for less than I have seen any decks by themselves! Going to go get them picked up tonight. Looks like I'm in the market for some wheel weights and tire chains now lol! Thanks again to the wealth of knowledge on the board. You guys are great!

I think he's been bitten folks.

Welcome to the Cub-Bug. Your steering box can be "rebuilt" and there are a number of reasons for steering slop. Typically old Cubs can be loose at every connection from the spindles to the steering wheel.

There is a friction pad that keeps the lever from just freewheeling F-R, as well as a number of adjustments in the Hydro's "trunion." Questions are encouraged and the folks here are walking Cub data banks...but I would suggest spending some time in the site's FAQ's, technical articles, etc.

Most every Cub question has been asked and answered on this site in the archives.

38", 42" and 48"

I believe this information to be true, however IIRC the center pulley on the deck will hit the lift frame when in the up position because it (the lift frame) doesn't have the correct bends in it to avoid the pulley.

I don't know if the correct lift frame for the deck will work with the Narrow Frame mule drive bracket.

But hey, if it cuts well and you can keep the belt from jumping off, that's what counts. I don't know that I have ever tried to cut grass with the mower deck all the way up anyway.

Here are my goodies. From the number the deck is a 48 inch correct? It's in decent shape. The rear corner around the wheel bracket has a crack on top and some rust through but I think it can be patched pretty easily. Also the heavy center had been busted before but is welded up pretty good. The PO even threw in the mule drive/undercarriage with the deal. The little plow seams to be in great shape. I am pretty happy with it all and for $125 I don't know that I could have done much better.

Yea that's a 48" deck, they always crack and rust out around the guage wheel bracket on the discharge side.

Any cheaper and you would have needed a ski mask. Excellent scores for your tractor.

olds45512:
Good I thought and hoped it was a 48" and yea I knew they did even the 50c on my 2072 did.

TheSaturnV:
That right there is funny! I know I couldn't get them loaded fast enough!

I will probably go ahead and use the tractor the way it came since I shouldn't have many more mows left and start on tearing the NF deck down to make it right for the spring. Between that and getting my 2072 pump straightened out I should have plenty to do this fall and winter. Thanks again fellas.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
