I had on cup that was cracked and I only replaced it. The new cup was different and I took it back to the CC dealer and was told that is what they are now. With one old cup and one new cup the plug went back in without any problem.

The new style cup is on the left, old style on the right. As you can see the new cup is very flat on what I call the bottom and the sides are straight up and down. The old style cups are tapered on the sides and tapered on what I call the bottom. There is also something of an extrusion in the center. The new cups simply do not fit down into the plug, nor do they fit well in the upper part of the casting. Please understand that until a few years ago when I would get new cups, they were shaped just like the "old" one in the picture. They also seemed to be a better quality part, they looked like they were chrome or had been polished, the new ones are rusty right out of the bag.
