I also agree the shifter looks way to long, kinda looks like a wide frame shifter with the end cut off or straightened.

You have the right shifter, just used what they have on the shelf, second gear is slower,as they used a the same gearing as an original up to a certain serial #92325 I believe
My 100 has the faster second, seems too fast to mow with...

The early 70/100s has a 16 tooth 2nd gear. Speed is 2.9 mph.
Your 102 has a 19 tooth 2nd gear. Speed is 3.9 mph.

Note: engine is running 3600 rpm.

Can you post a picture of the shifter?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
