Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm in Moyock, it's just south of Chesapeake VA. I have just under 2 acres of grass that gets cut every weekend, so this tractor is going to be worked. The belt on the 44" rotary mower deck broke today. I was going to replace both belts anyway. I wonder if the local cub cadet retailer will have the belts I need? I plan on calling them in the morning, otherwise can I order the belts from one of the vendors on this forum?
What's the cradle mod? When I took the deck off, and removed the cover I noticed the front roller was made from wood. It this original equipment, a wood roller on the front of the deck? The wood roller is worn more on one side than the other. The center blade seems to be cutting the grass shorter than each outboard blade. I could shim the outboard blades down with a flat washer, is this the best way to get the blades even? |

Nice find on the 1650.
There are manuals in the tec section on leveling your deck. Good luck with your new cub

My deck also has a wood roller in the front, so I guess that's how they were made. I also had an issue with uneven cut, which was resolved by a good blade sharpening. |

I picked up a # 954-3004 belt for my 44" deck, and finished cutting my lawn today. According to the CC dealer the IH-117465-C1 is the drive belt I need, but it was not in stock, so I still need one.

If your roller is worn more on one side your deck is probably to low,it shouldn't be touching the ground or your undercarriage is out of adjustment. I run mine about a inch off the ground at lowest setting. I would put a new roller on it sharpen the blades and check your deck height.

Good advice- I sharpened the blades & put a new deck belt on and raised height stop before mowing the tall grass yesterday. It cut very well, quickly. I still need a new PTO deck drive belt. I guess I'll take the S/N's down to the local CC dealer and let them order what it needs. Once I know the correct part numbers I'll probably order spares online.
I need to do an oil change and hydraulic fluid & filter change too. What fluids are recommended? I already have a spin-on filter. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
