Its hard to keep money in my wallet! It was worth it just to have another ported pump, ignition switch, and a light switch that my good 1450 was missing. I'm already figuring when I want to up-grade my good 1450 with the new cast iron oil pan,....can't believe those pans run $30-$40 bucks plus $10 shipping charge!

Thanks Dan! I really can not believe how smooth and quiet this one is! Perhaps I need to have a short go-over video made about this scrap yard find.

Thank you Allen! You know, on my way home from the yard yesterday, I pulled in to the gas station to get a few gallons of fuel. Anyways, a Sheriff cruiser pulls up next to me, and the deputy gets out, comes over and asks" Is that an IH Cub Cadet?" Long story short, we had about a 10 minute b/s secession about old iron garden tractors! He could not believe when I told him how the 1450 was acquired, and that he would be frequenting the same yard too! When ever I have an IH Cub Cadet in the back of the 'ol F-100, folks always take a look, or ask me questions.

Man, does this 1450 run good! Head lights work awesome, so those wires, lights, and factory switch will be going to my good 1450. I have a nice 1250 screen panel with IH emblem to replace the one in the scrap yard 1450.
I never seen perfect zinc plated lug bolts with the West Pull, Ill. monogram, and I mean all 10! These are going on the good 1450. The hour meter is very nice, and the lens is very clear and functions great,....we'll swap that out too! There are a few odd's and ends that will be swapped out to the good 1450. Anyways, I'm cleaning up this 1450. I decided I would start with the transmission. It leaks rather badly, and clunks back and fourth. Here is where I'm at now, and what I found wrong: ![]() ![]() Then, I noticed this: ![]() Here is a picture of the fender pan removed, all 12 screws turned out without incident: ![]() I have a parts 1250, and have a new part to replace the broken piece, and a replacement axel carrier. So, then we're looking at carrier seals if they leak, one carrier gasket, rear cover gasket, fluid, and maybe a filter. The filter on it is a Cub Cadet filter, probably not replaced too long ago. Good clues are found on this 1450n which describe a cared for tractor. I'm so-glad I'm not dealing with rust....the oil leak coated the inside of the frame resulting in all part removal made easy. The oil leak is from a broken line running up to the single spool hydraulic lift. Going to clean up the transmission so that I can tell if another leak occurs after start up. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
