It's possible that he's one of those with more money than brains and paid a shop to restore it for him. At shop labor rates I could see a $3200 job.

I would rather buy six more rusty ones that I didn't have for that price. Good gosh. Maybe the guy doesn't want to sell it and is showing his wife that he is making an attempt at it.

Price reduction is in order due to:
Incorrect paint on foot rest, starter, deck spindle covers, lift handle and headlight rings.
Unpainted chassis fasteners.
Probably not IH branded fasteners either
Non O.E.M. decals on tunnel.

Value after points reductions: $1000.

You forgot "incorrect seat, and I think the grille screen is painted white.

If anyone here has more money than brains, I'd be glad to restore your 125 for $3K.

Greg
I've spent over $3000 to restore some of my cubs. You'd be amazed how stuff adds up. I certainly was surprised when I added it all up. So I won't take the "more money than brains" comment personally...

And that's doing everything but the sandblasting myself. Sandblasting and priming all the parts was over $500. Tires, a couple new wheels, clutch, seat, decals, paint, lights, creeper, gaskets, springs, switches, engine machine work, and parts kit, etc.

I don't doubt he spent $3250.

On the other hand, I wouldn't expect anybody to pay anything close to $3000 for one of them.

The difference is that you are doing it as a hobby not to make money.

I also forgot to deduct for the "punched-out" battery box mod.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
