Yes, I set the valves per the manual I printed from this forum and my 321 runs real nice. I wonder if the coil isn't burnt up, but first I'm thinking timing/valves like everyone else. Print the manual and find an easy chair, lot of good info there, including some troubleshooting.

HEAR HEAR to the beer!!!! How about something simple like the spark plug? I have seen a cracked plug wreak alot of havoc and cause people to do reeeaaallllyyy bad things to their tractors/cars. Just my thoughts.

one thing you mentioned that the condenser wire was broken. usually this leads to burnt points. I don't know what you check? but I'd replace them.

check the compression release on the cam .that will let the engine turn over real slow if it is not right or working. i had a 125 to do the same thing and that is what it was.

Default Starter overheats.

I adjusted the timing. Lined up the S on the flywheel and set the valves - intake .010, exhaust .018. & set the points .020. I tried starting it again. shaft turned normally [better then it has] ...for about 2 sec' then started dragging again. Starter motor got real hot.
I think the starter is over heating and perhaps causing some of the issue. So timing is presumably good (as far as I can tell) I put a new regulator on. Also the solenoid ( I think) started humming after a I tried starting it a couple times it comes and goes. You think perhaps it got damaged with all the messing around. What do you think about the starter getting hot? I put a Volt meter on it and seemed like a lot of power loss.
I think we're heading in the right direction.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
