I don't know if I like Chondas or not as I never owned one but many people like them and I hear the parts can be replaced with similar sized Honda parts. Also I've cleanned a Chondas carb and a comparable Honda carb on comparable size engines on generators and they looked almost exactly the same inside. The things I saw that were cheapened on the clone were the key switch, some plastic parts like screws, and some rubber parts like hoses. Lastly, some of the 212 cc 6.5 hp clone parts and parts for a few other clones I think are available on some kart engine sites.

I saw the 22hp 670 Predator listed in Harbor Freights flyer for $699. Did a little digging on the web and found a Deere 318 and 400 and I believe a Simplicity someone had done the conversion on. Guess time will tell but it sounds like a cheap repower option.

I need to bump this thread to ask if anyone knows if the larger alternator ( they have 2) from the Honda from which this was cloned will fit, or can be made to fit the twin cylinder Predator. The KT 17 in my 782 just grenaded, and I need a replacement. Running fine, then clang, rattle massive smoke.
I understand from this thread that the original alternator will not support the electric PTO--or is there another work-around for that? |

Sorry for the passing of your kt, I don't have an answer to your alternator question, but if you didn't know, a Kohler m-18 is a direct bolt-in for your KT.
There are some good ones still around, and contrary to a mis belief, there are parts avail for the later Magnums, if a person is so inclined to rebuild/repair one. ![]() |

Hi, I've got a 682 Im repowering with the harbor freight 22hp motor. Got the adapter from the small engine warehouse, and the rest of the job is just basically drilling 4 holes in the mounting plate and using a bunch of washers on the engine mounting holes, and the PTO back bracket mounting bolts. The 1" - 1 1/8" adapter on ebay is needed, also a 1"washer since the end of the pto side of the crank isn't perfect so you need to make the space on the bearing of the pulley. The crank key needs to be shortened quite a bit... Will need a newer style ignition key- which has ground to mag. when on off. Probably some new choke/throttle cables. But all in all a pretty simple swap. Also will either need to modify exhaust or make a hole in the side panel and have it come out the side.

Can you post some pics and more info on the adapter that you got from SEW? Repower looks good so far.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
