The shifter knob will turn 360 deg. because it is just a press fit on the shifter. No threads or anything. Now if the shifter rotates 360 deg., then it is a different problem.

Nice work on your 104!

entire shifter rotates so it is a definite issue that I should address before it's put back together.

It's been quite some time since I've been able to get on the site. I've been crazy busy at work and have FINALLY had the time to tinker with the 104 again.
The gear shifter has been taken apart and fixed and now does not swivel 360 in the housing. thanks OCC for the feed on the way to fix this.
I have taken the 104 down to bare metal piece by piece with exception of the motor itself. 2 coats of Valspar primer for everything. And when finished it will have 3 coats of Valspar cub cadet yellow.
I will still have to acquire another complete wiring harness as this one has had a couple splices.
It's taken quite a bit of time and I even put a couple pieces back on today that still need painted....but I had to get it running again so it was worth it to me.
I may or may not put the sleeve hitch back on this. I personally don't have a use for it and have a friend who does so it may just go to him.
Thanks again OCC and all members for the input throughout the last few years and I will again post pics when it is completed.

I think the shifter problem is like one I had. The shifter has a bell shaped piece with a slot to keep it from turning. It needs reweilding back. The shifter is a little bit of a problem to take apart but can be done.

thanks for the comments guys... Hopefully, hopefully I should be acquiring another 100 Friday evening. I have already talked to the guy that has it and it looks as if we worked out a pretty fair deal. I should also have a spring assist and creeper gear for it as well on a separate sale for the 100 this weekend. I intend to continually tinker with this 100 and get it loaded fully. Not that I have any real needs for a rear pto and such but I will get it done eventually. Will need to get another set of fenders right away though.

here is the link to what I should be getting Friday..

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
