Nice find on the 682. Looks like a keeper. What's the serial number of your tractor? I agree with Ray, not too many with those air cleaners. My 782 is in the 667XXX range and has a round air cleaner IIRC, series I.

Just stay off the hills and keep the oil full. You'll be fine.

Serial number is 205xEx3U66696x best I can tell at the moment (x's I couldn't yet make out, stupid brush paint )

Engine Spec Number is 24136a, not sure what the "a" means but the spec number says Series I from everything I've read.

And I plan to avoid the hills, I'm on pretty flat land so I should be good.

Makes me nervous about how much life is left in this Series I motor I'm hoping to use her for this winter as my main snow thrower machine, I'd hate to have her blow up in the middle of a snow storm

I was also concerned about the engine on mine as well but looking at the old hour meter it had a 100 hours on it when it quit now idk when that was but I don't think it can have many hours on it. my engine runs great seems to loose oil and the engine has noisy valves ?. I still use mine for mowing and will until it blows, I just keep oil in it and its good, would like to know where it goes though and there very thirsty engines to
my serial is 688xxx almost at the end of the line and the flat air cleaner makes a bit more room then my round one

Keep the oil level up on it. The twins don't like to run low on oil!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
