Well, in the pic of the head. Notice how there is a ring all the way around it that appears shiny? It's where the compression ring that's made on the gasket was sealed. At the top of the pic, notice how that ring dulls, and the surface appears black to the outside edge of the old gasket? The compression ring looks like it was just starting to leak right there.

ok guys, update: we cleaned and sanded the bottom of the head , installed a brand new head gasket and put everything back together and torqued the head down , now we have to install the carb and gas tank and put in new points , and hopefully it will run smooth, it liked to break up bad at high throttle making progress though

Nick don't forget to re torque the head after you run it and let it cool.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
