I don't think it's a green trick just a cheap owner that didn't care in my case, but it taught me not to trust bulk oil.

How important is the cooling fan for the hydro? Mine doesn't have a fan on it, don't know if the PO took it off or what.

If you are going to use it hard you need it. If you are only going to do easy jobs with it for short periods of time you may be able to get by with out it as long as the fins on the pump are nice and clean to give it some cooling but I would get a fan on it if it was my tractor.

I'd put a fan on it ASAP before I did anything with it if it were mine.
