I agree with Kelly. An 82 Series or a super. I have a 782 and 1872 and love them both! You'll definitely want hydraulics.

Default The one I use daily

Currently that's my 104. Since I've owned over 100 I'd have to say I like ALL IH built Cub Cader garden tractors.

What is the best cub? The one that's in MY garage! Seriously though, IMO the best ones are the ones prior to the CCC cubs, and I gravitate even more specifically towards the 1X4/5 and 1X6/7 series.

Thumbs up

For the small hobby gardening, landscaping, snow removal, and yard tug this 71 has been great! I have not ever had a wink of any power shortage. Its keeping traction that can be a bugger. Enough cant be said about the greatness of the early Narrow frame tractors with the gear drive transmissions, they are the best of any garden tractor manufacturer to ever manufacture garden tractors.

A lot of great choices giving so far! I haven't seen a Cub Cadet I did not like!

The best cub is the one that gets the job done and you enjoy riding on. You will have to try them all out to see which one you enjoy the most.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
