With these tough little tractors being made for longevity it seems odd that IH forgot to put a drain plug on the Diff Housing someplace. A maintenance Fluid and filter change should not warrant pulling the back casing.
When I first got my 782 there was so much moisture in the Diff that there was no movement when the temps went below freezing. Yes, needed to open it up and dry it out. Now, I just want to drain and change for maintenance reasons. Add the fact I put a 2" receiver/ hitch on the back and now it becomes a bit busy for a fluid change. .

There is a drain on the rearend near the tube that runs to the pump.

I thought I saw something that might be a drain. Is it a four sided plug? Maybe fits a 1/4" or 3/8ths Open end wrench?

Maybe the reason behind no drain plug is, you had to remove the cover for fluid change, then you can clean out the inside.
Cause you know how a lot of people are, "easier the better". And that's not always the best attitude to have. And if you only needed to open/remove a plug, the inside would never get clean or opened until there was an issue...

Nice Job Todd!! Pretty cool that it still had the IH filter on it in nice shape! Id be tempted to drain that and keep it for display!

You may already know but the blue and white Car Quest filters are actually a premium Wix with a different paint job... just like a Napa gold! I use them also with no issues.

Paint looks nice too!!

The clean way to do that job, not even a drip, we give you the Mr Clean award Todd!

By the way...I know no one notice but all pictures are dated from 2013! That camera may need to be set apparently.

PS: We can see a old plank bench in one of the pictures, this is where I like to stand in all garage I had the chance to visit, I bet this one have a lot of good story to tell.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
