Make sure the (-) side of the coil is connected to the points. Be doubly sure the condenser is hooked to the (-) side of the coil also. The condenser body MUST BE GROUNDED PROPERLY to function in unison with the coil and supply a healthy spark.
A condenser hooked to the (+) coil side will allow the engine to start and idle roughly but will not allow the engine to operate above idle.

From about 1940 thru 1948, Chevrolets had a "current reversing switch" on top of the starter motor, with a linkage to the starter pedal: each time the starter pedal was depressed, the switch would reverse the polarity on the coil and points, theoretically eliminating point-pitting. Obviously they felt polarity would function equal either war. |

Maybe clip a temporary jumper wire from the condenser body to a known good ground ? Just in case engine tins are not well grounded thru recent paint work or older rust spots.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
