In my case, the previous owner of my 149 put a 1/4 inch bolt through the driveshaft at the engine coupler, and it was loose enough that it has apparently damaged the hole to the point it won't hold the pin. It seemed "pretty" tight when I set the pin, but obviously it wasn't tight enough. I'm hoping changing to a flex disk will solve the problem for me.

teejk-
The pin is hardened and the couplers, driveshaft, and input shaft are not. |

I think that's correct. I ordered a couple flex discs, a drive flange and a coupler from ccspecialties. There is another thread--I think it's the 149 resto-mod (red 149) thread where he did this.

It's supposed to be a 1/4" x 1 1/2" dowel pin.

1/4 hole worked fine. Posted some pictures of the finished drive shaft in another thread. The spiral pin measured .260 dia.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
