Well I was finally able to pull the pics off of my phone. After resizing them to 480x480 for posting, they looked "squished".
I put an album of 600x480 pics of the Free 126 in an album here:
http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/a...hp?albumid=576
Enjoy!
I replaced the front tires and took her for a spin around the yard. The steering is tighter than Carls 107 that I just rebuilt the steering on! Everything is great except for one minor detail.
I almost found out the hard way that the brakes are non-existant. The linings are gone and the backing plates are dangling in midair. Even at 5mph, seeing the garage wall closing in and the brake pedal doing nothing will sure raise your heart rate.
I'm really liking this old gal and will be putting her to work soon at my new house. Now I just need to find a mower deck. Anyone within a reasonable distance of Cleveland have a 38" that they would part with?

I've since given the 126 and Carls 107 a good bath with the pressure washer. Definite improvement for both. I'll post pics as I can.

Nice save on the lo-pro 126. You'll find a deck and mule drive before long. Bet ya it steers a lot better after you correct that toe-out issue up front!

It always impresses my how these old Kohlers can come back to life after sitting for soo long.

It came with a mule drive (and a really good deck drive belt) attached. I took them off for access underneath before I took the pics.
Yeah, I noticed the front tires looked a little "funny", but I hadn't thought much about it yet. In person it looks more like negative camber instead of toe . There's a little bit of play in the axle bores but nothing unusual.

I was really impressed (and very pleased) when it fired and ran like it does right now. The tank has some rust and varnish in the bottom, and the carb bowl was really nasty and gooey. I'm going to clean the tank, rebuild the carb and replace the points before I actually start working it.
As is, you'd think it was mowing or pulling a plow last week, but it wants to backfire on deceleration. I think it's actually running lean most of the time and the point gap "looks" narrow even after filing the points. I haven't checked it with a feeler gauge yet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
