My dad has a 782 and I've never driven a 1650 but if I had a choice I'd want a 1650.
For all around use a 782 is probably better as far as maintenance goes- those motor mounts on ql tractors cause a whole lot of problems, but I'd prefer a 1650 because I didn't really care for the 782 that I've used.

I'd go with the 782, also.
First, a 1650 can be a good tractor, but you still have to contend with the rubber ISOs, and drive line failure do to them. Second, a 782 is more collectable, and highly sought after. Not to mention the smoother ride of a twin cylinder.

From a maintenance standpoint of having a twin cylinder 782 and a single cylinder 125 the single cylinder is much more easy and fun to work on IMO. They do run smooth though, that is true.

Very true that a 125 is easier to work on than a 782..But compared to a 1650, there is less to go wrong on a 782, IMO. Guess I have just had too many QLs with bad ISO's and drive-lines because of the shaking of the bad ISO's.

Never heard anybody say that before...I guess you've never removed the hydro lever linkage from a 125 before. I would MUCH rather work on a 782 than a 125.

Oh yes I have! Anything to do with the trans on a NF is a pain in the ...Should have rephrased that. I was agreeing with him that the ENGINE is easier, and less complex to work on.

I think the motor life is suppose to be longer for the K-series. I'd go 1650 b/c I own one. Just pull the motor and do the rubber parts.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
