S O I really nailed this one for me. That little nub in the last picture was the problem. 2 min with a file fixed it.

Hey John, your welcome.

I was wondering how that filed set of contacts was holding up for you.

Default Re: Boiling gas

My 100 with a 42" deck on a hot day will boil the gas in the tank. It seems to happen when I am running near max RPM with thick grass to mow (and with dull blades). When I shut off the engine, the noise is apparent from the gas boiling in the tank. It is worrisome, but there it is

Still fine, though I'll replace them next time I'm at the dealer. I know that filed contacts have a much shorter half life as the plating is gone. Wonder what kind of points they used? Hard to imagine that IH invented a new version, since they were all about re-use and general good engineering.

I suppose Napa has them too, come to think of it.

well i reset the points. cleaned the carb and set it back at baseline. i still havnt gotten it to really boil the fuel like it was before, but it has simmered it. that stuff cost to much to just ride around and waste it so when i mow again this weekend ill know more. as far as the vr goes i havnt had a chance to check into it but that does sound like its my problem. thanks for all the info and help guys. now that the 125 is up and going i might just tear into the 102 like i wanted to do when i first got it

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
