Yes, I understand how engines cool. Same being, I have heard people say "run at full throttle" on both, air cooled and water cooled engines.



And -as with every Kubota powered Cub Cadet- it has a removable screen to clean the bigger particles away from the radiator. I have blown out everything, and inspected the radiator to find it is very clean. The heating issue amounts to the radiator being in the back, and not getting enough airflow at higher temperatures..Thus, running at full throttle.

Last night we removed the fan which is bolted to the flywheel, the engine end of the drive shaft joint and the ignition modules in preparation of the fly wheel removal this evening when my mechanic cousin brings his puller from work. I presume that we are ready to pull the flywheel is that correct? We have another question too. Could too much oil pressure cause the seals to leak? What generally causes high oil pressure? I do not believe that high oil pressure is my problem but am looking at all angles. When I had the breather cover off a month ago I inspected the reed and it seemed to be ok. Eric had asked if using an automotive oil filter could cause an oil pressure problem. Thanks to anyone that can answer my numerous questions.

Good to hear things are coming along with the engine!




Oil pressure should have nothing to do with the crank seal leaking, how many hours are on your engine? My guess is that the bad seal is caused from simply "use".

Yes that engine has over 1200 hrs on it. That alone could wear seals out.

Shouldn't, but could with the quality of newer engines.

Popped the flywheel right off tonight. Yes the rear seal is bad, bad enough to move rather easily on the shaft. When it is out as far as it goes it leaks but when it was all the way in it still held. We also removed the front seal and now it is wait for parts. This is the first time Eric and I personally have worked this much in depth on this command engine. Actually they are not hard to work on.

Well the new seals are in and the engine is mostly back together (need to put the rest of the tins on) but will be going back in as soon as we get a chance.

The rear seal pulled off the shaft by hand but the new one is much tighter.

It works!!!!. Thanks to all of you we got the engine off, fixed, and last night reinstalled on the tractor. We were pleasantly surprised at just how easy those big old Commands are to remove. After much more cleaning and wiping up oil smears the tins/shields were replaced and we got the engine reinstalled in the frame. There are still some parts to put on but that will wait till we spot weld a new nut inside the front of the frame to attach the snow blower. We put enough together to enable us to start the old girl up after double checking all bolts etc for proper tightness. She fired right up and seems to be running just fine. We even moved it under its own power both forward and back. After a month or two of frustration and parts replacements we are confident everything is back up and running just fine. I would caution everyone with a tractor to make at least an annual cleaning of their engine. I was absolutely amazed at how much stuff accumulated in the engine cooling fins compromising their cooling ability.
