I make brass PTO buttons, they are easy to replace and the brass one will lasty for years.

That's a picture of a K301 Kohler laying on it's side. See the "lump" on the bottom of the oil pan? That is one way to identify a 12 hp from a 10 hp Kohler ( 10 hp is flat )

1st. things 1st.,

Ask alot of questions for the # 122. This way I won't have to since I have a # 122.

When I 1st got my # 122 it started dying on me after 10min., start right up again & kept on killing on me every minute or so? Start right up again. When the engine cooled off it would run for 10min., & the problem started up again.

Here's what I did for a quick fix for MY problem & it worked, knowing deep down inside I HAD to rebuild the carb.

I cleaned the bowl on the carb, disconected the fuel hose & shot some carb spray into it & cranked the engine for about 10sec., & did it again. I removed the gas tank & flushed it out & added 1 quart of new gas with some Sea Foam in it. Ran it dry & the motor NEVER stopped.

This was a temp., fix & it worked for about a month. Then it happened again.

I then ordered a re-build kit from my local NAPA store & rebuilt the carb. Never had that problem again. Now I NEVER re-built a carb in my life. I took my time & followed these instructions; http://mgonitzke.net16.net/tools/carb_rebuild.pdf

If I can do it so can you. Just take it slow & now its easy & well worth it.

Nik

No one has responded to the serial numbers, Frame number 213703 Was made in Sept 1967 for a Cub Cadet 122 Kohler Model number and spec number
shows it the engine made in 1967, a K301, 12 hp. I take it that you saying frame you mean off the rearend. Which would be the correct location for a 122. Allso the hood should say 122 on it also.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
