Check the manual to be sure, but I think that they are NOT interchangeable starting with the series II. They are machined differently for the valve seats.

The only manual I have is for the 18M, if he needs the left I'll send him the left. My spare is a Kt17 not a seriesII.

That's probably because the service cylinder barrels are interchangeable and have valve seats that are pressed in, but according to my KT-17 manual, the intake and exhaust valve seats are cut directly into the casting (except in 'special applications'), making them not interchangeable. It looks like they went to hardened valve seats in all applications with the Magnum series, so those would be interchangeable, but you'd have to remove the old seats and have new ones pressed in if you were not installing used cylinders in the same configuration they were originally installed in.

I have one good jug with piston to send you if you want it. The other looks exactly like your damaged one. This is a KT17 Series II, I was wrong when I said it was not a Series II. I can give you the spec# tomorrow if you want it but this should work for ya. Let me know.

From, what I can remember, the KT17's from the factory had a left and right jug. The replacement ones were interchangeable. The nonreplacement ones actually have a "1" and a "2" stamped onto them somewhere to distinguish between the left and right one. I forget where it's stamped at or even which side is which, but if you look closely at one, you'll see the numbers stamped into them.

I just looked at the manual, and the numbers are stamped into the jug under or beside the valve cover.

This is copied out of the manual

Ouch! What a mess! Looking at the pictures I don't see any visible case damage, nothing jumping out at me anyway. Hopefully you can salvage it with the rebuild Georg. More probably when you get it all cleaned up. Good Luck!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
