You DEFINITELY need hardener. The paint will fade quickly and will bubble and peel if you spill any gas/oil on it if you don't use it.

What ever paint you decide on, make sure you're using a respirator with the proper (FRESH) cartridges, or a fresh air system, if available.

I don't think he heard you.

Matt suggested that you use hardner and I agree, why disregard good advice?

Contains xylene....probably toluene and benzene and 6 other kinds of ....ene...

If you are going to use a product, any product, you need to understand the product. You need to know what other products to mix with it so that it performs correctly.

Again you instist on using spirits when two of us told you to use naptha....there is good reason for that...naptha is cleaner, lighter, dries faster, is not a heavy solvent full of oils.....you fail to listen....Why?

Tractor Supply carries Valspar paint. You can buy a quart of paint, and a quart of the hardner around $30-35. Mixed that is 2 quarts, and will go along way IF you batch spray everything, and use it wisely. Anything else, you are just wasting time, and money IMO. Do it right the first time around.

I'm willing to bet you can use the Valspar hardener with the CC paint. I also agree that you should thin it with Naptha. The Valspar paint is similar...no instructions. I think the primer 8 parts paint to 1 part mineral spirits, and the paint 8 parts paint, 1 part hardener, and 1 part Naptha. Worked for me.

Acrylic-

8 parts paint
4 parts reducer
1 part hardner

Paint is $27 per quart, reducer is $8 per quart, hardner is $7. More than enough of one color per tractor. If your local auto body supply doesn't have the color codes they can certainly get them, ask.

3 hour handle time. 24 hour full cure time. Can be (should be) wet sanded and recoated anytime after the first 24 hours. Can also be oven baked, 220 degrees for 1 hour, this after the 24 hour cure time ( Do not oven bake before the cure time, solvents need to evaporate completely). WHY?????? Do this to wheels prior to tire installation, with care the finish will not be damaged during tire installation.

Now we paint our cars with acrylic and we leave them exposed to sun and elements for 10 years or better......now why not our tractors????

Intimidation I suppose.

Even with hardner I doubt you get a 3 hour handle time or a 24 hour cure time with an oil/alkyd paint....I'd give it atleast 36 hours.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
