Sorry for the confusion on this one folks, this was not intended to be a guide on how to fix a "no crank" problem, just a quick go / no go check on a spare relay/ solenoid / contactor. Also tried to dispel some confusion I sense when folks see that extra 4th post. Using this method, you can have some confidence if a friend asks to borrow a replacement assembly and if they ask "does it work?", you won't have to shrug your shoulder and reply "dunno". And when they question the 4th post when they only have 3, you can assure them, with proper wiring, it will work as a (most likely free) replacement!
Thanks for all the comments folks. and I have to correct the meter function switch in the 2nd image ... how did the switch in the voltage position sneak in there !
