Boy, I sure do love this one! I need to remove the front axel now to grind some welds and paint. I was using a punch-pin and tapping the coiled spring pin with a small ball-peen hammer and was not making too much progress when I noticed the coiled spring pin becoming "mushroomed". I stopped there because I didnot want to be getting crazy with hitting this too hard. I just want to do all these repairs "text-book", the right way! So I'am thinking if I take my cut-off wheel and zip off that side of the coiled spring pin, it should come out. Then I can start the refurb on the front axel as well.

Default front axel,left steering knuckle

Here is my next challange. The PO never botherd to replace the grease zerk on this side of the front axel. So, it became very stiff and hard to turn the steering wheel. So much so, That I believe it put alot of stress on my steering assembly. The left steering knuckle is bent, as in you can notice my L-tire sitting in toward the frame of the tractor. The steering arm that connects to this steering knuckle is in very bad shape as well, having being bent beyond the point of repair. I figure I need a new or replacement left side steering knuckle and steering arm. The parts I have extra: both sets have been drilled out to a 5/16" hole for a plane bolt, nut to serve instead of the required coil spring pin connecting the drag link. This tractor I will be taking my time with and only using IH Cub Cadet parts, or if necessary, the next best I can get. The right side steering knuckle looks A-1! Next challange is the steering assembly refurb, and I'am thinking of going with the IH Cub Cadet steering up-grade kit: has 1 precicion steel shim, a NICE/GBC thrust bearing and nylon locknut. $ 24.00 from Cub Cadet Specialties. What do you think of this steering up-grade, those of you who done it? So on to the research on how to correctly remove the steering wheel. Then on to rebuilding the clutch with all new parts from Chris W. Then the motor work, my needed creeper gear, and the IH #1 tiller restore. Whew! What a long winded post. But that is my game plan, with some Cub Cadet paint along the way.

Thanks Allen! This will be sorta a slow go. More rain/wet weather today. I did manage toget the 100 back up onto the operating platform. I'am thinking tri-rib front tires now.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
