Very much needed repairs. Throw the balance gears as far away as you can. They are bad mojo. Always replace the governor gear and also the cross shaft and cross shaft bushing. I went with the factory plastic gear. My 128 ran for 37 years with a plastic one, so I had no issue going back that route. If you can buy a good cast gear then by all means I would get one. Just a matter of personal preference.

How much of a difference in vibration is noticeable without the balance gears?

I would be more worried about the balance gears putting a viewing window in the block over vibration. I don't think you'll feel any vibration without hte balance gears in the motor.

Default your smoker
I have a 107 that smoked..I bit the bullet and took it to a small engine repair service..they did the rings and rebore and now I have an excellant running 10 hp K series kohler..no smoke and very little oil consumption..gas is tough..but I can live with that/

How much did it cost ya for a bore, piston, and rings?

Took her out tonight after fresh oil change, and with headlights on at a stop with no wind, you can see the blue haze BAD! Poor engine....you'd think with that much smoke it would have horrible compression, but it runs great!
