That's kind of what I was thinking Methos, on replacing these things while I'm in there.

If I'm not confident that this o-ring is up to grade 5 tolerances, I'm sure as heck not confident that a harbor freight one will be!

(edit 7/30/11 - I did wind up picking up an IH o-ring for about $4. Tolerances are important, and I didn't want to use a lower-class o-ring here. Even though the IH part didn't specify it's class, I figure it's up to their spec.)

It's funny - when I first got the tractor, I went to the local dealer and told him I had a 1650 that would need an oil change, hytran change, etc. Without ever having looked at the tractor, I just assumed it had an oil filter - and he sold me one that is apparently for the K341...

But there's no oil filter on this engine. Seems he would have known that. Did they ever put one on a K341?

Need to return that when I pick up my next parts....

No oil filter on any single cylinder Kohlers to my knowledge. Some but not all of the twins are the only ones I know of with internal oil pumps and a need for an oil filter.

Here's another possible clue related to the history of this K341. On the blower housing, if you're looking up from underneath, there are these two holes that have been crudely punched through, 1/2" to 3/4" diameter.

Anyone got any guesses as to why this would have been done? I'm starting to wonder if it was mounted to something else at one time (?)

Those holes may have been caused by the iso mount bolts after the old rubber failed in the rear at one time. The engine rails will drop down and that shroud could rest on the bolts. I had a similar issue when my mounts failed.

I had a 1250 with the same holes, looks like same spot. It looked like the bolts for the iso-mounts where rubbing on there and they made the holes. My iso-mounts were bad so thats why it rubbed.

Ah, I didn't even think about that. I can't quite picture what things looked like there with the bolts and all now that I have it all apart...

...And if you recall, someone had left the front motor mounting bolts out, apparently because they're so hard to get to unless you drop the axle. So I imagine that would have contributed even more to the backside of the motor hitting on those bolts.

They weren't necessarily left out...they tend to vibrate out. The last QL I had the engine out of had one bolt holding the engine in...the others had fallen out. That engine had never been apart as far as I could tell.

OK, this is stupid - but I'm confusing myself on tires and wheels.

The current rear tires say 23x8.5 - 12

I interpret that as a tire that is 23" tall with a 8.5" tread width, mounted on a 12" tall rim. Is that correct?

Where does the width of the rim factor into this? If one wanted to go with wider tires, wouldn't he need to look at rim width as well?
