As promised pics of the pump input shaft;

And the two adapters; I was wrong, the spline size is identical between the two.

This shows what I am trying to do, to re use the fan from the 1772, cut out (2) pcs of 2.0mm sheet metal on the water jet. The fan will be sandwiched between those;

Difference in the bolt patterns;

Got the CV parts out of the parts washer, and began to re assemble those;

Everything was clicking right along, until I tried to finish the installation. It seems this shaft may not be from a 1864? It is about 2.5" too short

I pulled back out, it is 18.0" long, possibly Sam will chime in and let me know if this is in fact from a 1864, or a different tractor? Or I'm really missing something here.

Well, I do not believe that the drive shaft I bought was from an 1864. Cub parts says a 1864 drive shaft should be 20.38" lg. This one is only 18.0" lg

Sounds like it's from a 1541. Who did you get the shaft from? Also you do not need to sandwich the fan between 2 pieces of steel. The fan plate I mentioned is one piece of aluminum. It centers the fan and holds the fan against the rubber CV boot. I like to keep the weight down that is hanging off the pump shaft.

Shaft came from a member here. Not a supporting vendor.

Thanks Sam.

To be honest I have not even opened the box he sent. I just asked for the adapters, so I am assuming that is all I got.

I was not aware that you had designed such a plate, therefore I did not know to request it.

Nice job Jeff!

I've been giving your contact info out!

Hopefully you get some O.T. in on Cub parts!

This drive shaft conversion is a slick deal, much better than rag joints.

It think I reached a milestone, the 1772 is back together and it runs.

Upgrades are;

1. New filters and fuel lines. (tank was cleaned out as well.)
2. New glow plugs.
3. New belts.
4. Glow plug relay mod.
5. Gear reduction starter.
6. Mini Denso alternator. (that may have to come back off, because I don't think the turbo will fit with the alternator there, but that's a story for a different day!)
7. New battery cables made from 0 gauge cable.
8. CV drives shaft upgrade.
9. Valves adjusted.

Thanks for all the input / help along the way.

Link to a short video.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
