Pulled the other inside tine assembly from the de-rusting tank and hand wire brushed it and set aside to dry for a day. I wasn't going to do this but they were pretty bad looking and the electrolysis helped remove a lot of rust. I had to clean up the 1.25 inside dia. with a drill to make sure it was going to slip on the tiller drive shaft. Tried it and it fits real well.
I have taken apart the gear box assembly for the rear of the tractor and have the frame that mounts on the rear end ready to clean up in the tank. Removed the set screws from the pulley and used the air hammer on the shaft technique to quickly and easily slide the shaft from the pulley. I had not used that before and the idea is a good one and works very well!
I will be priming and painting the tine assemblies black this week. I need to get those on and then can set up the rest of the tiller.
Hope things are good in Cub land. I will try to get some pictures when I get the tine assemblies back on.
Regards,
Chris

I'm glad everything got to you ok this time. I insured it just in case. The post office must have worked overtime over the weekend. I ordered some stuff Saturday and it got here today. When I shipped your box out, they said it would be delivered Tuesday.

Chris, awesome job and thread on the tiller. I may be wrong but I don't think you want sharp tines. I heard that they should be blunt so that they bust up the soil and not cut it.

Oak,
Tooooo late! I have to go out and till for a couple days to get them dull again Mine are worn pretty bad (already well blunted over) so I added some new "edge" but still not razor sharp. Our ground is mostly clay and it will till pretty hard. If I ever get this out of the show room and use it, I will let you know.
I have a slight concern on these old tubes that the tine plates attach to. They are showing some stress cracks near the holes where the pins go through. Would be bad if it twisted off a tube? yikes?
ed.

Help!
I think I need the adjuster handle that tightens the chains for getting the depth set, Anyone have pictures out there of this item on there #1 tiller. goes thru the top link on the hitch.

I ran out and snapped some shots, I know I haven't fed you guys any pictures lately!
- Gear box getting cleaned up, Haven't opened it yet. Spins real nice and should be fine!
- Mounting plate in clean up mode, should go in tank tomorrow night.
- Some shots of the tines in primer.
- They will be painted gloss black top coat.
Regards,
Chris

Default tiller talk

Folks,
Well I had all the tine assembly's primed with Rustoleum. I did not have any Rustoleum black, but I had some cheap cans of black around. Tried it and that black paint really did not like to be on the Rustoleum very much. Its on there but took about 4 coats to cover the gray and not sure how well it will stay? It dried a lot quicker. in less than a hour its dry to the touch?
Well its only the tines and will get removed quickly if this thing ever sees dirt again
Hope things are good out there in cub land! Cant wait for Doug to take over restoring the next #1 tiller so I can watch!
I might be able to start the rest of the assembly work tomorrow night.
I may fab a handle for the top adjuster. Have a idea

Starting to work my other hobby right now; maple syrup season is starting in the next week or so.
Regards,
Chris

Chris, looking forward to your handle idea. You've got lots of time to finish this before your other hobby takes you away for a while.

Duke, Folks,
-For the tiller depth adjustment handle fabrication: I cut the round threaded spacer out of the welded assembly that was used for the tightening of the belt. ( I had a extra one). Then whittled out a piece of sheet steel (.10 inch thick) in the approx shape of the new twist handle. Bent it to shape in the shop vice and welded the threaded tube into it. Its not factory but should look pretty close.
- Also some pictures of the support as it came out of the de-rusting tank after several days. (Light hand wire brushing).
- The tines are on the drive shaft.
-Major tin is in place.
-Main lower draw bar is bolted in place.
Some trouble with the left tin extension. For some reason it did not have a holder for the pivot rod to go through. I think I will have to make one as this is causing some binding and scraping the paint off the extension tin. I should have built on while I had it bare metals.
Anyway some shots as it starts to take shape.

Regards,
Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
