The O had a completely frozen by rust throttle assy when I got it, and I don't know if the one that was on there was original, but I salvaged and cleaned the lever assembly. Following some of Dukes advice, I purchased a cheap ( $3 ~ ) throttle at the local AgriSupply. I ditched the lever part and was able to swap out and resize the cable.
One thing I discovered, is that the diameter of the outer spring assy is smaller than the one that was on the tractor, so the clamp at the carb end wouldnt cinch down enough (it's always something!) . A piece of heat shrink tubing made a good neat fix for that, and I'm good to go. The governor assy is a bit of a mystery but I'll figure that out next time. For now, it's nice to have reasonable throttle control again. By the way, a small dremel cut off wheel is Da Stuff for shortening the outer spring housing. It's a little fix, but one of many. (the therapeutic Zen of Cub repairs) John

The careful reader would notice that in perfect John form, I've cleverly installed the cable backwards, requiring a rework right after this photo

If there's a 50/50 chance, 90% of the time I'll be wrong.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
