Thanks man! Working on these tractors is always rewarding and in some ways like mental therapy for me. I don't get to spend much time at my home shop anymore. It's great to have a place where time slows down and I can focus on the details that put integrity into my work.

I need to get some better pictures for this thread, and more of them as well.

Well, I got the first round of mechanical repairs finished this week.

Readjusted the timing, re-set the carb, re-torqued the head. Put it all back together and got to mow the property with it.

It did really well. I can tell the Kohler is worn, it isn't as quiet as it should be, things are definitely a little loose internally, but all in all it did really well. Has plenty of power. The 44a deck even produced a nice cut, and my mule drive shaft repair held up well too. Steering is tight, and hydro speed control acts like it should. Engine vibration has been drastically decreased.

It's definitely not as quick to mow with as my 3000 Series, but that's not the point. I want more seat time, not less.

Well good for you. You got to enjoy the tractor after all the hard work. And just think, there will be many more enjoyable times on your 1250...

She got a good workout today. About 2 hrs worth, some tall grass and lots of hills to climb. Definitely smokes some under a load, but it never bogs down or acts gutless. The old Kohlers are amazing engines.

Looks great. Try mowing so you discharge where you've already mowed thereby eliminating the need to mow the grass twice.

I purposely cut that way because I wanted to mow the thick stuff going uphill on that particular pass. In general I wasn't concerned with mowing efficiently, but rather in testing the 1250 thoroughly.

I think I'm a little lightheaded from the fumes. Hopefully getting the muffler air duct will help direct the exhaust away. Whew!

Looks like it consumed quite a bit of oil. This is exactly the same scenario I found myself in with my 129. It's probably best that I don't work this engine very hard until the internals are rebuilt. Used about 1/2 qt in 2.5-3 hrs. Spark plug shows evidence of poor combustion/oil soot.

Well by the length of the weeds, and the fact that the tractor is still running, I'd say it passed the test.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
