But it will live it's life out in the city. I'm pretty sure it has a country state of mind, but everything changes.
I ordered the gaskets and seals today, so hopefully next week we can get all the transaxle wrapped up and start getting things back together. When I read about everyone's projects it seems like everything happens so fast, I know better, but at times it seems like it's taking forever, even though it's not been that long. ![]()

Got some of the transaxle apart today. Wow, there was some gunk in the left side of the axle housing. (see the screwdriver) And it seems the axle seal on the right was dry rotted.
Is the bearing inside the rear supposed to turn freely, the one the axle rides on? Another question, how do I get the seals out? On to the front of the trans. next.

Todd,
Nice pictures. I may need those someday. If I ever get into one of the std shift cubs. Can you pop the seals out with a screw driver? The old ones are going in the trash so you don't have to worry about damage on them right???? Nice gunk! Regards, Chris

Those brass bushings with the holes in them look like they are from an Original tranny.Just about all the later gear drives have roller bearings in there.Never seen that before.I have a seal puller that removes them.works great, cheep too.

I think the first one to have roller bearings instead of bronze bushings was the 123. I know for sure that the 70/100 have bronze bushings.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
