As for that filter. That's some good shelf art, when you get it off.
Reminds me of a guy one time asking me if he should change the filter once and awhile. I told him, of course. His response was why, the oil still looked clean...

When I bought my new 1863 in 1993, the owner of the Cub Cadet dealership told me I did't need to change the fluid. Just change the filter every few years! I've done a few drain/fills at filter change time. No leaks. Maybe I should pull the rear cover for a look. Drained fluid always looked nice.

Did some wiring on the 782 today.. extended the cable going to the starter and started building the conversion harness for the Command in the 82 series.. using the original IH 782 harness.. I think I have it figured out so that I don't have to cut the original harness.. this thing is in phenomenal condition.. never seen 40 year old wiring in great shape like this one.! No pictures cause it didn't really look like I did anything.. most of todays work is hidden!

No matter how small, doing something is progress, even if you only work for a few minutes. Sooner rather than later you will be taking your first ride. Hang in there buddy. Good things take time. Have pride in the fact that you are doing the work on your tractor to make it what you want.

Cleaning up the fuel tank tonight and noticed the IH trademark and part number on the tank... Always neat to find IH stamped somewhere.. reminds me of the giant that International Harvester once was but is no more! Always wondered how it would be today if they could've hung on a few more years

I hear that Jay. Neat seeing those "hidden" numbers.
Yeah, the big "what if". I think about that when I go past a closed IH dealership. We have the one in town here, that's now a Bumper to Bumper, and a pallett shop.
SO SAD.

Well I drove it out of the shop today under it's own power! got the wiring mostly finished.. added a relay to shut her down.. didn't have to cut or modify the original IH wiring anywhere.. just made jumpers and plugs where needed. added the new longer choke and throttle cables.. Everything seems to work great. This thing will fly! I don't remember any of my other cubs being this fast.... seems like it will run 15 mph!?

Trunion and hydro linkage are gonna need a little work.. it's a little jerky... but I expected that.. P/S works awesome... and this super steer axle is nice! It will turn on a dime! 1864 CV driveline is super smooth! So far everything is worth all the work!

Next project will probably be to clean and re seal the rear axle and pump and work on the hydro linkage.. I want ALL the mechanical done before I do ANY cosmetics! Been a blast so far!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
