SwampRatt - The lugs are just the hardware store special for that size. Nothing special. I did look for the open-end lugs like you see on trailers and drag cars so I could put longer wheel studs in the hubs.
Sorry it's been so long. Been busy with other things. My 100 is fighting me pretty fierce right now - the motor won't slide back enough for the holes in the frame to line up with the holes in the oilpan. The driveshaft is a SST piece from Mark Hellrung (so I can assume that it's the right length) and the motor is moved back as far as it will go. Not sure what the deal is. Curious what you guys think. Overhead view of clutch assembly ![]() Photo from under the tractor, looking at the right side of the oilpan & motor mount hole. The front of the tractor is towards the bottom of the photo ![]() Another picture from underneath the tractor, similiar to the above photo, but the left side of the tractor ![]() Any ideas?

Interesting. Your correctly seated in the transmission connector? Note no pins from the drive hub,..would those show anything had they been there? What was your inspection of the drive hub bushing? With the new drive shaft you maybe too tight here? A very important place here. Looks like a 1/4" off.
Nice paint, and I like the clutch leaver piviot point w/ grease zerk. I have added 2 zerk to my 72.

Everything is pinned together & the end of the driveshaft is all the way thru the driver pilot bushing, but hasn't bottomed out on the crankshaft nut (which it shouldn't). There's a solid 1/32" to maybe a 1/16" between the clutch driver & the front clutch plate hub that's pinned to the driveshaft, and a 1/16" between the top of the clutch driver pin bosses and the front clutch plate. It looks that if the driveshaft assembly is moved forward anymore that the driver & front plate hub will make contact or the driver pin bosses will hit the O.D. of the front clutch plate. Seems like that stuff is as close to the motor as it should be.
Starting to think my transmission coupler may be the culprit. I'm currently using a Midwest Super Cub SST unit who's spiral pin holes are 1" on-center apart from each other. I never had a stock coupler to compare to (the tractor had a piece of pipe made into a coupler) but maybe my MSC piece is too long. Judging from my stash of disassembly pictures & the parts that are re-assembled now, there could be a 3/8" to 1/2" space between the end of the driveshaft and the end of the reduction drive gear stub in the transmission. So that leads me to the question, what are the dimensions on a standard transmission coupler? What is the spacing of the sprial pin holes? Does any of this make sense?

Hello, I don't have one to look at right now but i think the holes in the rear coupler are 3/4" apart. Mike

Anyone have a stock driveshaft coupler that they could measure for me? Would like to know if thats the issue before I throw parts at it. Thanks!

This post is way too late, as I've had the little machine running for about a month now. I've only got about 3 hours since it got going after being put back together, but it seems very strong... much stronger than when it was pulled out. Was able to get a correct driveshaft coupler (a stock one) and a new driveshaft (Thanks to Mr. Hellrung) and it didn't put up much fuss to run again.
Besides a small oil leak (pan gasket) & the paint needs to be re-done (bad primer), it turned out great. I'm really happy to have my little tracotr back after so long. I really need to get another one so I can work on the one & still have a tractor to use. As terrible as it is to say, I can't wait for the snow to come so I can really use it. It'll get some use next week to finish up yardwork before the snow arrives then it'll be ready for winter. ![]() ![]()

Thanks for updating us with your progress. Looks like you're good to go for another 20 yrs or so! John

It's hard to beat OEM parts, but Mark does make some awesome drive shafts. I've got one waiting to be installed on my 128. Very nice looking 100

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
